Since its first publication Christian Theology: An Introduction has established itself as the leading introductory textbook world-wide. Now, Alister McGrath provides a full new edition which maintains the strengths, structure and features of the first edition in its comprehensive but user-friendly style and coverage. At the same time, it has been revised and updated in light of feedback from students and lecturers internationally. In addition to general updating and expansion, changes include the addition of significant new historical sections dealing with Byzantine theology, Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, Charismatic and Pentecostal Christianity, and Third World Christianity; the addition of major new theological sections, including sections dealing with the development of the discipline of theology, twentieth-century ecclesiology, ninth- and twentieth-century sacramental debates, and the interaction of Christian theology and the natural sciences; the chapters on Christianity and the World Religions and Last Things have been rewritten and expanded; addition of a major new section detailing theological resources available on the Internet; all bibliographies have been updated, expanded and broken down into smaller sections; all citations are now sourced, and linked to the readings provided in the companion Christian Theology Reader; and the glossary has been expanded. Based on many years' experience of teaching Christian theology, Alister McGrath has provided the finest textbook available in the field. This new edition strengthens its position, and will be welcomed by professors and their students alike.

This publication presents the Proceedings of Harvard Square Symposium Volume 3, Year 2017. The third edition of the Harvard Square Symposium was suggestively framed as, "The Holistic Society: Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives," and welcomed papers authored by prominent academics from several countries. Countering the current tendencies for isolationism and suspicion toward the other, the authors are more than intentional in generating a meaningful global dialogue. Their efforts fall in line with the very goal of the Harvard Square Symposium to reunite promising and well established scholars in formal and informal creative environments, to propose holistic ways of thinking by nurturing the engagement of the global intellectual elite into conversations meant to tackle the new challenges faced by the mankind. The contributors to this volume remain nevertheless skeptical about the sustainability of some contemporary cultural trends to unite divided societies and to create a holistic society.

In this book, Graham Oppy examines arguments for and against the existence of God. He shows that none of these arguments is powerful enough to change the minds of reasonable participants in debates on the question of the existence of God. His conclusion is supported by detailed analyses of the arguments as well as by the development of a theory about the purpose of arguments and the criteria that should be used in judging whether or not arguments are successful. Oppy discusses the work of a wide array of philosophers, including Anselm, Aquinas, Descartes, Locke, Leibniz, Kant, Hume and, more recently, Plantinga, Dembski, White, Dawkins, Bergman, Gale and Pruss.

The present work offers a new synthesis of the entire spectrum of the Christian faith showing its inner unity vibrancy and relevance. As such it is a work of a type that rarely appears these days: a systematic exposition of the Christian faith that goes beyond a mere compilation of the views of others. It achieves this through the consistent use of a key concept: the community that love creates. The work shows how love's power to unite and transform all that it unites can illuminate every aspect of the Christian faith. Moreover the work deliberately sets out to present Christian beliefs in a way that transcends the traditional divisions of Western Christianity. At the same time suitable as a basic text for theological students of all denominations while also being accessible to anyone wishing to explore the depths of the Christian faith.
